Bio

“Hey, how are you!! I’m Jason.” That’s how I would typically greet anyone I meet. I love meeting people and making new friends. Speaking of new friends: HI! I am an Oregon-raised Nashville singer-songwriter, but I hate using that title because it does not even begin to describe my music and journey so far. This might be a little more accurate: Small town Oregonian, Alaskan-trained, southern Cal-experienced, Seattle-saturated, Indie-born, college-trained, Nashville transplant. Let me explain.  I moved to Alaska to study music, I cut my teeth in LA for a time, I’ve played shows, written, and been influenced by Seattle-based musicians. I was born in the underground music scene, but developed my skills through a music scholarship. i was an art major and music major at Eastern Oregon university.

I write, play, and sing all my own music. I strive to be original while staying true to my personality of bright and fun. However, I have been called a loner and I think that is often evident in my songwriting. I tend to write songs based on whatever is going on in my life and I’m not scared to be honest.  I try not to see music as a competition but rather as a place I can go to just be me and to escape troubles.  The event that has most troubled me personally was a two-month trip I took to the Philippines.  That experience was one that I can’t really ever get out of my head. It seemed as if I had gone back in time two hundred years.  It has changed my perspective and was the tipping point in my decision to pursue music full-time.  The greatest challenge that I face as an artist is my identity.  Who people want me to be compared to who I want to be,  the struggle between fame and insignificance, etc.  I hope you understand what I’m saying. I’m saying that I want to have a heart that’s true, a heart that doesn’t just want your money, a heart that doesn’t just want your applause, but can somehow be a voice that says don’t give up, you do have purpose, and you do have worth.

I started playing guitar when I was ten, when i wrote my first album called “The Blue Mountain Boys” with the hit song called “My cows don’t even love you anymore” It was a trio composed of my brother Laine, and my cousin Rusty.  In high school I was art student of the year two years running, not to mention an all-state athlete, and honor student.  But enough about me…Wait, no, I’m not done. Ha ha. I love to be goofy; I love art, music and wearing white t-shirts (actually that’s about all I own.)  Some facts I don’t tell many people are: I run almost every morning. I play bass and mandolin.  Had a 15,000$ music scholarship to a private school in california where i attended three days of class before dropping out.  I’ve been arrested in London, lived in my car for a month, worked as a wild land firefighter for the forest service. accidentally killed my girlfriends horse which i'm still going to replace once i make some money from music, been hired and fired in the same day, twice. I once broke in and fell asleep in a strangers house (accidentally) the short of it is my friend gave me bad directions to his grandparent ranch (we were going snowboarding the next day in montana) and I might have a phobia of merry-go rounds.
